Musée des arts asiatiques Guimet

Museum

District : Tour Eiffel / Trocadéro

Member of the Paris Convention and Visitors Bureau

Description :

Created at the initiative of an industrialist from Lyon Émile Guimet (1836-1918), this museum has become a great centre for knowledge of Asian civilizations. The Galeries du Panthéon bouddhique, also part of the museum, have an exceptionally fine Japanese garden and tea pavilion, a gift from Japanese patrons of the arts. This place full of serenity was designed specially to harmonize with all the aspects of the traditional tea ceremony.

Current events

Temporary exhibitions are occasionally exhibited in the rooms of the permenant collections, presenting modern and contemporary works showing the links between the past and present in Asia.

The Musée des Arts Asiatiques Guimet exhibits the widest overview of Asiatic arts in Western Europe.
In a fully renovated open and luminous setting, discover collections of Indian, Japanese, Chinese and Indonesian masterpieces created thousands of years ago. Silk road treasures, Buddhas from Angkor, Japanese engravings, Indian silk, etc.
These major exhibitions, workshops, stories for children, films, concerts and theatre shows make this museum a venue offering a fantastic opening up to Asiatic religions and civilizations. A few metres from the museum, the Buddhist Pantheon offers a peaceful and priviledged break, with its Japanese garden and tea house between Trocadero and the Champs-Elysées.
